GUEST TEACHERS
Julie Hodges PHd & Winnie Ashe
Julie has taught yoga since 1996. She is a Junior Intermediate Level II Iyengar
yoga teacher. She currently teaches yoga classes in Lismore, The Channon and Byron Bay in the Northern Rivers, NSW. Julie
maintains a regular personal practice, and continues to train with her senior teacher, Pixie Lillas in Sydney, and by travelling
to the Iyengar institute in India to study with the Iyengar family. Julie spent 4 weeks at the Iyengar Institute in June 2011.
Julie also examined the effects of an Iyengar yoga practice when she undertook
her PhD. She researched the impact of a regular Iyengar yoga practice on a group of women aged between 45 and 60. The experiences
of the women she interviewed showed that a regular practice have a very positive impact on your physical, mental and emotional
wellbeing.
Testimonial
Byron Bay "Bush 2 Beach" Yoga Retreat in 2010
"Julie’s class came at the very end of our Byron Bay Yoga Retreat
and what a class to end our retreat on! I left feeling completely nourished and empowered.
Julie’s teaching
approach shows she definitely understands where many women’s bodies are at. She structured the class based on
strengthening key areas with a sense of humour. So I felt in very experienced, safe hands despite my niggling injuries.
In particular Julie’s class gave me a sound technique to protect my knees during asanas, which I always use now when
I do yoga.
However the highlight for me was the savasana she gave the class. It was truly memorable, powerful and
insightful. Through her adjustments and guidance she provided, and the moving reading from BKS Iyengar, she gave a really
wonderful, lasting experience of yoga.
The fact that she was surrounded after the class by grateful, beaming yoginis
told me that I wasn’t the only one that felt this way"

Winnie Ashe
Winnie has been practicing yoga for over 30 years. Her daily practice is an integral part of her life and has taken
her through the ups and downs of raising four children, working and being involved in her community through schools and
clubs. Winnie commenced her yoga studies from a Hitleman book before discovering local Gold Coast teacher, Elsie Stewart,
who followed the Satyananda style. She then moved to
a strong Iyenger teacher, Jan O'Donoghue of Mudgeeraba in 1983. Winnie's classes include both aspects.
Winnie has worked with Martin Jackson, Peter Scott, Glen Cerosola, Maurice McCann and recently was privileged to
participate in a workshop with Eve Grybowski.
Winnie
completed her teachers training with Nanette at the Byron Yoga Centre in 2009. Since this time Winnie has commenced her own classes on the Gold Coast. Winnie assisted Nanette
with the organisation of the first Bush2Beach Retreat held at Byron Bay in March 2010 and feels very honoured to be invited to the second Bush2Beach Retreat at Mylestom NSW. Winnie
has also been a member of Dragons Abreast Gold Coast for quite a few years and looks forward to sharing this past-time
with everyone. She assures you all that your yoga practice will compliment your paddling experience.
