What
began as a love for asana more than twenty five years ago has blossomed into a true passion for yoga. I was motivated to undertake my teacher training
after many requests from my friends to teach them yoga. In 2009 I completed my teacher training course at the Byron
Yoga Centre.Led by John Ogilvie and Stephan Kahlert the school teaches
the Purna Style, meaning complete or integrated, and incorporates all eight limbs of the Raja Yoga Path. The Asana are based
on the principles and alignment of Iyengar Yoga.
My
background as a Registered Nurse has been a solid foundation for teaching and my particular interest in therapeutic
yoga.My
greatest enjoyment in teaching yoga is to encourage students to foster an attitude of acceptance and compassion towards themselves,
building honest awareness of their own unique body and exploring ways to practice yoga that meet their individual needs.I
see the practice of yoga as fundamentally an act of kindness toward oneself. It is a practical philosophy and therapy which changes from day to day according
to your personal physical, psychological and spiritual needs at that time.
I am committed to updating my knowledge and education by regularly attending workshops and continuing to study at
home. I am currently enrolled in a Dru Meditation course and I will also be undertaking an Intensive Fundamentals workshop/training
retreat in early 2012 with Yoga Therapy Australia with Saraswathi Vasudevan (Viniyoga).
My teaching style has been influenced by many different teachers .I have attended various workshops and retreats with teachers such as Clive
Sheridan, Judith Hanson Lasater,Flo Fenton, Tamara James, Kate Pell, Barry & Dianne Hogg,Janet Stevens,Daniela Casotti
,Dr Rishki Vivekananda (Satyananda),Mary O'Dwyer (Pelvic Floor
Physiotherapist),Matthew O'Malveney ,Lyn Thomas and Iyengar teachers
Dr Julie Hodges,Maurice McCann and Jan Donohue.
Teaching has added yet another dimension to my practice by giving me the amazing opportunity to learn, grow
and explore with so many others.I love to share my passion for yoga with
my students and encouraging them on their yoga journey. I gratefully acknowledge the expertise of my teachers and the support
and encouragement of my colleagues, students, friends and family .
I hope to see you on the mat you soon!
