Yoga is for every body..... everywhere!

"The purpose of Yoga is awareness, not perfected poses, beliefs, or any kind of attainment. Awareness from moment to moment requires quiet strength, flexibility, and balance. A good Yoga practice develops exactly these characteristics."

You don't have to be young, fit or supple. You start from where you are at this moment. Each individual works within her/his own level of comfort listening to their own body's messages.

Yoga is completely non competitive. Each person is coming to Yoga for their own health and well being. There is pressure on us to be competitive in all sorts of areas, and it is a great relief and pleasure to find a style of exercise that is loving and nurturing, that connects us to a source of stability and peace within, that truly gives us "time out", a break from the cares of the day, time to just be ourselves. We come away from our practice feeling energized, but calm and ready to deal  with situations on any level.

People are drawn to Yoga for various reasons, many first come as a way of improving their body's flexibility and strength. Others come seeking help or relief for a specific complaint, like asthma or tension. Whatever your reason for starting Yoga, this ancient system of health care will give you what you came for.... and more.

What is yoga?
Hatha yoga integrates body, mind, emotions and soul through breath, gentle body work, meditation and relaxation.Yoga helps us all to reconnect to what nourishes us. Yoga encourages us to listen to and respect our body. Yoga is not competitive. In a class, you are encouraged to take your time and work within your own range of movement. It does not matter what other students are able to do, whether you can touch your toes or do a handstand. The emphasis is for you to be aware of how your body feels in the different poses.

Yoga is now recognized worldwide as a form of preventative therapy, something the yogis have known for thousands of years !  It is recommended by many doctors, physiotherapists, counsellors, chiropractors and other health professionals.

Is Yoga a religion?
Yoga is a science – a technology. It is a scientific fact that everything is made up of energy. Yoga works with energy in the body to bring health and wellbeing. You don’t need to believe in a particular God (or any God at all!) or belong to a religion. The principles of Yoga can be applied by everyone regardless of race, gender, belief or culture.

What is Restorative yoga?

Restorative Yoga encourages us to linger longer in poses and savour the sweetness of our practice. It enables
the renewal of energy without exerting energy and allows us to awaken to deep restorative relaxation and healing. This class is designed to wind you down and bring you back to yourself .The postures will link together in a slow meditative flow finishing with 15-20 minutes of meditation and deep relaxation. There may be some gentle inversions depending upon the day, energy & feeling and only a few or perhaps no standing postures.
